In Michigan, you must wait 60 days from the time that a divorce is filed to the date it is finalized if you have no minor children.

If you have minor children there is a 6 month waiting period.  It can be shortened by the court with the filing of a motion.  Some judge’s will waive the waiting period (less than 6 months – never less than 60 days).

If you are facing a divorce and have a question about the waiting period, our divorce attorneys can answer your questions.   Our attorneys have over 95 years of divorce experience.  Our attorneys have extensive divorce trial experience.  Considering the seriousness of this life changing event, it is extremely important to retain the services of an experienced attorney in the area of divorce.
